The Official Story was very heart wrenching to watch. All Alicia wanted in life to be a mother and it appeared as though she had gotten her wish by havng Gaby in her lilfe. She felt as though she was providing the best life for Gaby until she began to wonder about the circumstances surrounding the adoption of Gaby and what happened to her parents. Alicia began to feel hopeless regarding Abby once she realized that her husband Roberto may have played a role in the disappearance of Gaby's real parents. Once Alicia found out from Ana what ordeal she had been through with people who supported the Argentine regime for living with a subversive man. Alicia I feel began to worry about the future with Gaby and that was why she began looking into see if Gaby had any family. Gaby almost seemed as though she knew what she had been through in her early years especially how she reacted to the other kids playing guns and war games. She appeared wiser than her years. I believe that Alicia knew that Gaby and herself would not be able to have a good life with Roberto and I believe this is why she sent Gaby off to her grandparents, she knew that she needed to be away from Roberto and that Gaby would also be safe there. I did not really like the way the movie ended because I wanted to see Gaby and Alicia just go on and live their life together because what Alicia wanted more than anything in life was to be a mother and she did what she did to protect Gaby. I do believe that there will be a light at teh end of the tunnel for Gaby because her grandparents loved her very much and will protect her. Hopefully one day, Alicia will get her and they can be together again.

  1. I think that Alicia was so blinded by her desire to be a mother that she didn't even concern herself with how Roberto had arranged for the adoption of Gaby. I agree that Alicia had to get away from Roberto, There was never any suggestion that he had hit her before, I feel that he did this out of frustration with the situation he had created, but that isn't an excuse to hit someone. I would have much rather seen Gaby live with her true grandparents. I don't know how they could have accomplished the task of discovering who her parents truly were, but I think they could have started wih the woman who thought she was Gaby's abuela. It was nice that she was with her adopted grandparents and they would take good care of her, but I think she deseved to know who her birth parents were. I think Ana never trusted Roberto and that is why she told the story to Alicia. How difficult it must have been for her to tell this story to her friend and spend time with Roberto when she knew he was involved in her kidnap and torture. And how hard would it be for Alicia to stay with him after she realized the same after he spoke about Ana'a ordeal when she had never told him what she knew.

  2. I think that Gaby will be OK, but what a trauma for a child of that age to go through. She has a wonderful mother. Alicia, and it seems like her grandmother(natural) is also a wonderful person.

I also think that if I had to plan an ending for this movie, Alicia would remain the mom for Gaby, but Roberto would be given supervised visits. The grandmother would be able to spend time with Gaby.

The two women in this film, Alicia and Gaby's grandmother were from opposite upbrining and economics, but they seemed to have a good bond together. I wish that Alicia would have been able to stand up to Roberto when he was yelling at Gaby's grandma, but that is probably cultural. I would not stand for it if my husband was kicking someone that I had over out of my house, but then again, I am not Alicia and my husband is certainly not Roberto.
